{"id":70,"date":"2012-01-25T13:30:32","date_gmt":"2012-01-25T13:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idiosyncrazy.org\/blog\/?p=70"},"modified":"2012-01-25T14:37:19","modified_gmt":"2012-01-25T14:37:19","slug":"our-swarthmore-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.idiosyncrazy.org\/blog\/2012\/01\/25\/our-swarthmore-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Swarthmore Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='wp_fbl_top' style='text-align:'><\/div><p><em>Since October 2011, <a href=\"http:\/\/idiosyncrazy.org\/\">idiosynCrazy productions<\/a> has been involved in a partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swarthmore.edu\/dance.xml\">Swarthmore College\u2019s dance program<\/a>, sponsored in part by a grant from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nea.gov\/partner\/artsed\/index.html\">NEA Arts in Education program<\/a>.\u00a0 Four idiosynCrazy performers are involved as mentors of nine Swarthmore dance students.\u00a0 The Swarthmore dance students, in turn, are mentors to several middle school students from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chesterchildrenschorus.org\/\">Chester Children&#8217;s Chorus<\/a>.\u00a0 This week, Shavon Norris shares some feelings about being involved with the project as a supervisor \u2013 negotiating communications among the several sets of bodies involved.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swarthmore Project<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Shavon Norris<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>idiosynCrazy productions<br \/>\na company of three heads and many bodies<br \/>\na company of art, relationships and somatics<\/p>\n<p>the me in the 3<br \/>\nto mind and mine the relationships<br \/>\nto remember that we are parts of small and large communities<br \/>\nthe me in the 3<br \/>\nto remind that we want to see others while we are being seen<\/p>\n<p>the Swarthmore Project<br \/>\n4 idiosynCrazy members, 9 Swarthmore students, middle school girls, John Cage and me<br \/>\na collaboration<br \/>\nme the organizer<br \/>\nidiosynCrazies the mentors<br \/>\nSwarthmore students the mentees<br \/>\nJohn Cage the score<\/p>\n<p>a collision of minds, aesthetics, bodies, wills<br \/>\na building of movement, language, knowledge, relationships<br \/>\njuggling responsibilities, work, time and priorities<\/p>\n<p>a collaboration<br \/>\nof playing with ideas and concepts<br \/>\na collaboration<br \/>\nof challenging comfort and exploring new<br \/>\na collaboration<br \/>\nof how to make a dance<\/p>\n<p>in rehearsals there is laughter<br \/>\nthere is frustration, adjustments, sweat and care<br \/>\nthere is pushing and pulling<br \/>\nthere is try it again<br \/>\nthere is smashing of movement, adding, subtracting and connecting<br \/>\nthere is individual and collective anxiety<br \/>\nthere is mentorship and ownership<br \/>\nthere is peeking into the life of professionals and remembering the needs of the student<br \/>\nthere is teacher as student and student as teacher<br \/>\nin rehearsals there is reciprocity and seeing<\/p>\n<p>in April there will be a dance<br \/>\na sharing of what the rehearsals made<br \/>\na sharing of the smashing, laughter and learning<\/p>\n<p>in April we will know how to do this again in September<\/p>\n<div class='wb_fb_comment'><br\/><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class='wp_fbl_top' style='text-align:'><\/div><p>Since October 2011, idiosynCrazy productions has been involved in a partnership with Swarthmore College\u2019s dance program, sponsored in part by a grant from the NEA Arts in Education program.\u00a0 Four idiosynCrazy performers are involved as mentors of nine Swarthmore dance &hellip;
