Since October 2011, idiosynCrazy productions<\/a> has been involved in a partnership with Swarthmore College\u2019s dance program<\/a>, sponsored in part by a grant from the NEA Arts in Education program<\/a>.\u00a0 Four idiosynCrazy performers are involved as mentors of nine Swarthmore dance students.\u00a0 The Swarthmore dance students, in turn, are mentors to several middle school students from the Chester Children’s Chorus<\/a>.\u00a0 This week, Shavon Norris shares some feelings about being involved with the project as a supervisor \u2013 negotiating communications among the several sets of bodies involved.<\/em><\/p>\n

a collision of minds, aesthetics, bodies, wills
\na building of movement, language, knowledge, relationships
\njuggling responsibilities, work, time and priorities<\/p>\n

\nof playing with ideas and concepts

\nof challenging comfort and exploring new
\na collaboration
\nof how to make a dance<\/p>\n

in rehearsals there is laughter
\nthere is frustration, adjustments, sweat and care
\nthere is pushing and pulling
\nthere is try it again
\nthere is smashing of movement, adding, subtracting and connecting
\nthere is individual and collective anxiety
\nthere is mentorship and ownership
\nthere is peeking into the life of professionals and remembering the needs of the student
\nthere is teacher as student and student as teacher
\nin rehearsals there is reciprocity and seeing<\/p>\n

in April there will be a dance
\na sharing of what the rehearsals made
\na sharing of the smashing, laughter and learning<\/p>\n

in April we will know how to do this again in September<\/p>\n
